Bible Prophecies Fulfilled

Lesson 3.01

Bible prophecies fulfilled during Christ's passion are meant to grow our faith. Bible prophecies about the future are meant to get our attention!

Please read Psalm 22:1-19 & Isaiah 53:1-12 before starting Bible study lessons #3.01.

Previous lesson: Final Judgement #2.24.

Preliminary Bible Study Questions:

1) Why did God predict and record much of Jesus' crucifixion?
2) Who were the main prophets God used to predict the happenings of the passion of Jesus Christ?
3) What does God predict about the future in regards to Jesus?

This particular Bible study will prepare our minds and hearts for the Bible studies that lie ahead in this course. The two Bible prophecies you read in preparation, i.e. Psalm 22 & Isaiah 53, are amazingly accurate prophecies about Christ's crucifixion. They were written between 1,000 and 700 years before Jesus' birth.

Those facts alone should leave us in awe of our mighty God! Let's get started.

Why Does God Predict the Future?

Why did God predict and record certain future activities of his Son and the plan of redemption?

Prophecies are meant to prepare hearts for the coming events and people. Wise people heed the warnings, while foolish people ignore them (Luke 16:17-21).

And fulfilled prophecies are meant to witness to the power and sovereignty of God. The Bible prophecies fulfilled are amazing proof of God's sovereignty over the history of the world.

In summary, God uses Bible prophecy to forewarn us and to build our faith in him.

Jesus' Attention To Prophecies

Jesus says, "Then he took with him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we're going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished." (Luke 18:31). Here, Jesus predicts that the Old Testament predictions will be fulfilled. That is mind-boggling.

God spoke through his prophets hundreds of years earlier to predict the future, and now Jesus is predicting that the predictions will occur in days. The sad part of this is the fact that the disciples Jesus taught for over three years still don't grasp what will occur. Jesus' attention should be our attention.

We'll begin with prophecies about Jesus Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem to his heavenly throne where he now sits. Actually, we'll also look ahead to the throne he'll be sitting at for eternity - his throne in New Jerusalem.

Note the precision of the prophesied incidents (e.g. a donkey's colt as opposed to a donkey, etc). The actual prophecy is printed, so all you have to do is hover over the New Testament passage reference to see the prophecy's fulfillment.

Bible Prophecies Fulfilled Are A Witness

Along with miracles, fulfilled Bible prophecies were one of Jesus' strongest arguments for people believing God. He was always relying on the Scriptures for spiritual growth and future knowledge, which makes one wise to salvation.

Jesus says the Scriptures point to him and we are to come to him to receive life (John 5:39-40). As we read the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit should burn the word into our hearts (Luke 24:32) while Jesus opens our minds to understand (Luke 24:45).

Along with the resurrection, fulfilled Bible prophecies were one of St Paul the Apostle's strongest arguments for people believing in God (Romans 1:2-3). Paul hardly mentioned hell in his teachings, but talked lots about the prophets (e.g. Romans 10:17-21). Knowledge of God's word, repentance of one's sinfulness, and belief in God through Jesus Christ will lead guide you to salvation's door.

The first half of our responsibility is to look back on fulfilled prophecy in order to grow our faith. We should be excited about these fulfilled prophecies, and trust God more than we previously did. The second half of our responsibility is to look ahead at the prophecies of the coming Lord. We are to prepare to meet him, either at our death or at the 2nd coming of Christ.

Grasp This!

The Israelites had the Holy Scriptures predicting Jesus' first coming, but didn't recognize or receive him when he did arrive. They had the Scriptures but didn't follow them.

We have the Bible and many still don't realize that Jesus' second coming will happen soon, and therefore, they won't be prepared.

Similar to the warning sirens on a speeding fire engine, the warning sirens of Christ's second coming are blaring loud and clear.

Are you heeding the warning?

Jesus asks, "Haven't you read the Scriptures?" (Matthew 19:4).

The Bible is your key to eternal life.

For a moment, don't look around for anyone or anything else.

Stop with blaming something or someone in your past for your present condition. Open up God's word and read, open up your mind and reason, and open up your heart and believe in Jesus Christ. Commit your life, totally, to God today. Obedience to God's word will soon follow after God enters your life.

Bible Study Questions:

1) Bible prophecies fulfilled lead to faith in individuals. Why? (see Romans 10:17-21).
2) Along with fulfilled Bible prophecies, what act of God did Paul rely on for witnessing to Gentiles? (see Romans 1:2-3).
3) How do the Bible prophecies about the future motivate us today?
4) What does the Bible predict about your future?

Inspirational Bible Verses:
And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:19-21 NIV

Men and brethren, this scripture must be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of King David spoke before concerning Judas, who guided them to Jesus. Acts 1:16 KJV

Jesus Quotes!
Then he said, I pray thee, father Abraham, that thou would send him to my father's house: For I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham said unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, No, father Abraham: but if one went to them from the dead, they will repent. And Abraham said unto him, If they don't listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Luke 16:27-31)

Your mistake is that you don't know the Scriptures, and you don't know the power of God. (Mark 12:24).

Prayers of Thanksgiving:
O, Lord God, the Scriptures are the key to our eternal life. We are called to read, repent and believe. Father, open up our eyes so we can see your amazing work throughout history. Reveal your eternal power to our limited minds. Through the Bible you teach us your ways. Through the Scriptures you show us your miracles. Through your word you tell us the future. God, I repent and I believe. I beg you, save my poor soul. In Jesus' name. Amen.
