Thanksgiving Day Prayers - Devotion

Citizens of the United States gather together on Thanksgiving Day to acknowledge, celebrate, and offer prayers of thanksgiving to the God of the Bible, the only true God, for all the good things with which he has blessed us.

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States celebrated on the last Thursday of November. For a short, informative history please visit this site (click): Thanksgiving Day History.

You may be visiting this site from another country that also celebrates Thanksgiving Day, and I'd like to welcome you to join us in these Thanksgiving Day prayers and devotions, as well.

Devoted Christians each possess a grateful heart towards God for all things. Life is full of wonderful blessings with which the Lord has chosen to grant us. To each of us he has given a miraculous life. He created us as special, unique individuals who need other people, including family, friends, coworkers, and the special community found in church life.

God has provided for our physical needs, which is all he guarantees to provide in the Bible (Matthew 6:26). God also offers everything we need for our spiritual needs (Ephesians 1:3). Unfortunately, most people don't seek the Lord's gifts for their spiritual life.

God is alive, Jesus is interceding on your behalf, but, have you turned to him, and accepted these great gifts from him?

- Faith is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9).
- Repentance is a gift from God (Romans 2:4).
- Forgiveness is a gift from God (Romans 5:15).
- Salvation is a gift from God (2 Corinthians 6:1-2).
- Righteousness is a gift from God (Romans 5:16-17).
- Good works (Ephesians 2:10) are accomplished through our spiritual gifts from God (Romans 12:6-8).
- All good things are gifts from God (Romans 11:33-36).
- The Holy Spirit is a gift from God (Acts 1:4-5).
- Jesus is a gift from God (John 17:7-8).

Genuine gratitude to our Lord for these things should overflow from our hearts. The thankfulness should spring forth in praise from our lips.

All of the above gifts are readily available to those who seek them with all their heart. Our Thanksgiving Day Prayers should reflect the joy and thankfulness in our hearts for the many wonderful gifts God has given us and offered us. Understanding that salvation and a life devoted to God are incredible gifts is critical.

God wants all of us following his Son, Jesus, in real discipleship. Take this day of thanksgiving and turn it into a new beginning. This can be a new life where every day starts with a warm, grateful heart praising God and his Son, through the powerful Holy Spirit. Thank God now with your mouth, but live for God today by devoting your entire heart, all of your strength, and your mind to Him. God's best to you.

Oh come, let's sing to the Lord! Let's shout aloud to the rock of our salvation!
Let's come before his presence with thanksgiving. Let's extol him with songs!
For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the deep places of the earth. The heights of the mountains are also his.
The sea is his, and he made it. His hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let's worship and bow down. Let's kneel before the Lord, our Maker,
For he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice!
From the Book of Psalms 95:1-7 NHEB.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness. Come before his presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, he is God. It is he who has made us, and not we ourselves. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

For the Lord is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.

The following is a Thanksgiving prayer from the angels and saints in heaven:

"Amen! Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might, be to our God forever and ever! Amen... We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who was; because you have taken your great power, and reigned." From the Book of Revelation 7:11-12; 11:17 NHEB.

Thanksgiving Day Prayers

Dear Heavenly Father,

Great is your name!
You, Lord, are worthy to be praised.
You alone are the One due our thanksgiving.
May the eyes of our heart focus on you for this time of prayer.
May our attention solely be devoted to you.

Lord, you have blessed us far beyond what we deserve.
Father, you have abundantly poured out these heavenly gifts:
faith, repentance, forgiveness, salvation, and righteousness,
good works, the Bible, the Spirit, and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
May each of us come to experience all of these blessings in our lives.

You have graciously given those who love you these precious gifts of the Spirit:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control;
Yes, Lord, there are no laws against these great things.
For those who are thirsty you provide the Living Water,
For those who are hungry you offer the Bread of Life,
for those who seek, they find; for those who weep, you comfort. Thank you, Lord.

God Almighty, you made us able to love you and love others.
We ask that you now make us willing to do the same.
We are asked to come and know you personally.
We are told to love you, because you first loved us. Thank you, Lord.

Father, you want us to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves.
That's hard for us, but you provide the power.
Help us, Lord, to love our family, those loved ones you have given us.
Help us, Lord, to love our friends, our co-workers, and our neighbors.
We thank you, on this special holiday, for all of those people in our lives.
May we appreciate these people, your greatest creations, for enriching our lives.
For supporting us through tough times. For listening when we need someone's ear.
For counseling when we need help. And, for enjoying the good times together.

Father, thank you for supplying our daily needs this past year.
Thank you for the food, clothing, and shelter.
Thank you for providing things over and above our needs.
May each of us fully appreciate all we receive from you, O Lord.

Most of all, Father, thank you for Jesus Christ.
Jesus, thank you for giving up your life in heaven,
for coming and living a perfect life here on earth,
for sacrificing your life on the cross,
for taking the punishment due us, for our sin,
for rising from the dead and defeating eternal death,
for interceding on our behalf before the Father,
and, for sending the Spirit when we begin following you.

Father, please hear our Thanksgiving Day prayers,
blessing this food and our time together in fellowship.
Thank you for those who contributed their time in preparation of this meal.

Lord, may all we say and do bring honor and glory to you.
Please continue to provide for our needs this coming year.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
