Preliminary Bible Study Questions:

1) What were some reasons God created the first woman?

2) Who was the first person to break God's command (aka sin)?

3) Were there any punishments for the original sin?

Welcome! I'm glad you stopped in today. This will be a critical lesson. We're talking about some neat things that went into the creation of Eve, but also some things that went terribly wrong soon afterwards.

Grab an ice cold soda, and let's get started!

God Created Woman

Genesis 2:18,21-2 states, "Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him...So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man's ribs and closed up the opening. The Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man." God created woman.

The man was shocked! God just brought him the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Wow!

The man shouted, "At last! This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called 'woman,' because she was taken from 'man'" (Genesis 2:23).

After watching the animals for a time, the man began wondering why he didn't have a mate. No worries! God had the plan all along, and the man finally got to see the most beautiful of God's creations - a woman.

That's right, the history of Jesus Christ includes his creation of the first woman.

Marital Bliss

Man had a need for companionship, so God created woman. The man now had a helper and the two became one flesh. Like the sweet, creamy milk pouring into the rich, bold espresso making a cappuccino - man and woman combined to become the first human couple joined in holy matrimony.

There was no shame between them while they enjoyed perfect bliss. They served the Lord by keeping the Garden of Eden. They were tending and naming the animals together.

You have to wonder what the two talked about, because they had no history together. They didn't even have a history! All of a sudden, poof! There they are! Nor were there other people to talk about, my goodness, those two must have struggled to chat!

Seriously, we do know the man told her about the direct command to not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Jesus Christ created the man's life partner - his wife. God gave the man the one to whom he would be married. The man accepted the woman and loved the woman exactly like it was meant to be. Loving one's spouse is a natural expression of one's love for God.

The two lived together in harmony and in a love relationship with God. What could possibly go wrong, right?

Eve Deceived

Genesis 3 tells us that the woman was deceived by the serpent, the shrewdest of God's creatures. Satan actually possessed a serpent and then talked the woman into eating fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Breaking God's commands is called sin and the first sin of mankind proved devastating to God's creation. Man's first sin is called Original Sin.

Satan was already beginning his eternal war attempting to thwart God's plans. Satan is God's great antagonist and he wasted no time in moving into the Garden of Eden. His sinful temptation of Eve ruined man's original relationship with his Creator.

Humanity Punished

Original sin had terrible consequences on all of creation, but since we're talking about man and woman here, we'll limit this discussion to what the sin meant for humanity.

Adam needed a helpmate, so God created the woman for him. But, things didn't go so well. The man, because of his sin, had to be punished by God. The man would now have to work the ground to grow crops. No longer was all his food provided.Physical work and sweating became part of a man's job at this time in human history. Prior to this he only had to harvest the fruits and vegetables - now he had to raise the crops from seed to harvest.

The woman also got punished by God for her sin. She would now give birth in tremendous pain. She would also try and rule over the man, which was not the case prior to the sin. Henceforth, marriage became a tremendous struggle.

The worst consequence of sin, though, was man and woman's separation from God and the Garden of Eden. God would no longer fellowship with them in a physical, intimate love relationship. The man and woman's sin built a spiritual wall between God and mankind.

Additionally, God kicked them out of the Garden of Eden because he couldn't trust the two anymore. Had they remained in the Garden, they might have eaten from the tree of life, which gives eternal life to anyone who eats its fruit.

God banished them, placing mighty cherubim angels with flaming swords to protect the Garden of Eden and the important tree from the people. The two sinners left the Garden of Eden in total shame.

Finally, the ultimate consequence of sin was death, but more than that, actually a series of "deaths." God created mankind to live eternally without ever experiencing spiritual or physical death. The sin brought both spiritual and physical death to the couple, and eventually to all people, including you and me.

The two were now lost "in sin" and unable to directly relate with God. They were banished from the presence of God and his Son, Jesus Christ.

They were also going to suffer physical death, which means their bodies would eventually perish and return to dust (Genesis 3:19). That situation wasn't what God desired. Death is the separation of life from and the body, so original sin brought death to humanity.

This also effects our relationship with God, too - YES, you and me. Why? Because God held the entire human race responsible for breaking his command. This explains why we can't naturally see God, nor can we know him or relate to him. There is a wall between us and God; but fortunately, our loving God did something about the mess our original parents made out of humanity (Romans 5:8).

Why Did God Create Woman?

God created woman to be a helper, and God created woman to procreate humans.

After being driven from the Garden, the two were given names: Adam and Eve. Adam's name simply means "man," while Eve's name was given because she would be "the mother of all who lived" (Genesis 3:20).

Adam and Eve experienced sexual relations and their first boys were soon born - Cain and Abel. They had many more children in the following years. Their punishment turned into punishment for all of mankind, because the sin nature passes from the man into the children.

Babies are all born sinners and eventually sin by choice. Their moral fabric includes sinfulness and separation from God. Cain killed his brother and was banished even further from the Garden of Eden than his father and mother. Humanity only got worse before it got better (Genesis 6:5-6).

In answer to the question, "Why did God create woman?" God saw the need for man to have a companion, so he created woman. Women are now honored by God because they bring into life that which didn't have life before, that is, children! His ongoing creation of individual humans continues through women.

Our biblical Eve was the original mother of all the living and should be honored accordingly.

Man and woman together is the natural order that God intended. The two together have the abilities to grow more spiritually than a man or woman by him or herself. When a couple becomes married their individual spiritual lives can greatly increase because of the expanding dynamics within a biblical relationship.

God can then become glorified through the marriage and even more so when a baby is born into the family. Jesus Christ is making us more like him and a biblical marriage, and the subsequent family , wonderfully fulfill that purpose.

Grasp This!

God created man and it was good. God created woman and it was good. God created us and he was thrilled with the results. We're damaged by sin, for now, but that will change. We'll then be pleasing to him once again.

Evolution simply isn't true, and it skews how people view themselves. Jesus stated in Mark 10:6, "But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation." Believing a lie instead of what your Creator knows as fact hinders your walk with Christ, at best, and could possibly prevent your salvation, at worst.

God's creation of humans is the only reasonable conclusion you can reach when wrestling with the subject of evolution. Human pride blinds us to pure truth, but, by faith gifted from God, we can easily see God's handiwork in the creation of people.

So, if needed, repent (change your mind) about your beliefs in creation and commit your life to Jesus Christ. He wants to personally know YOU, his creation. Pray with me: Sinners Prayer.

2) How did the original sin effect future marriages?

3) What was the ultimate punishment to humanity because of original sin?

Inspirational Bible Verses:

And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, “God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him. Genesis 4:25

For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ . . . So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. Romans 5:17,11

Faith Quotes!

Faith is not the belief that God will do what you want. Faith is the belief that God will do what is right. Max Lucado

Faith is something that is busy, powerful and creative, though properly speaking, it is essentially an enduring than a doing. It changes the mind and heart. Martin Luther

Quotes about Women:

Woman was not taken from the feet of Adam to be his slave, nor from his head to be his lord, but from his side to be his partner. Peter Lombard

Prayers of Thanksgiving:

Dear Lord God, Please forgive me when I think that I could have done better than Adam and Eve against Satan. People are no match for the hideous beast. Please strengthen us, O God, with your spiritual armour, so we can withstand his attacks against your kingdom. I love you. In Jesus' name. Amen
